MEAT PACKING DISTRICT
Smells like the Meat Packing District! In 1900, over 250 slaughterhouses and packing plants filled this district; by the 1930's those houses produced the nation's third-largest volume of dressed meats. Now home to some of NYC's trendiest business and restaurants, in the wee hours of the morning you can still find butchers in white aprons on these sidewalks. Even if the meat packing industry has faded here, the smell hasn't.
