Through Community Focus projects, Place Matters seeks to identify places of value to members of New York's many communities--defined by geography or by shared interests. These often involve collaborations with community partners.

The goals of these collaborations vary. In some cases we focus only on collecting Census nominations. In other cases, the collaborators produce interpretive resources like maps, or conduct advocacy activities to protect places at risk. The mix of work we do together depends on the issues facing the community and the interests of the collaborators.
