The approaches and strategies that Place Matters is developing to promote and protect places of historic and cultural significance are perfectly suitable for rural and urban settings outside of New York City. For example, the nonprofit organization Traditional Arts in Upstate New York runs a program modeled after Place Matters called RVSP (Registry of Very Special Places) in the upper Adirondack region.

We hope the forthcoming Place Matters Toolkit (Fall 2006), a guide to documenting, promoting, and protecting places that matter, will be a useful resource to those of you working in New York City and beyond. The first version will only be available on this website, but we hope to make print versions available in the future.

Place Matters staff members are also available for consultation and workshops. To inquire about consultation opportunities, contact Place Matters Director Marci Reaven at placematters@citylore.org.

At this time we unfortunately cannot include nominations for places outside of New York City in our Census of Places that Matter, but in the future, may devise a way to do so.
