Al Cholo Bakery & Health Food Store
Valda Morris
On Saturdays, the Bakery, which is Antiguan owned, becomes a gathering place not only for the St. Kitts and Nevis nationals, but also the wider Caribbean population. The bakery sells white and whole wheat bread, which is baked basically like Italian bread, but with a softer texture. They also sell pastries such as coconut tarts, buns, raisin rolls and a specialty, Black Pudding, which is a delicacy made of pig intestine and rice cooked and mixed with blood. Aside from a place to buy pastries and breads, the bakery also serves as a gathering place for people of the Leeward Islands for dances and group trips to the Caribbean. The bakery also advertises the different entertainers who would be visiting. In addition, it sells newspapers and is the venue for St. Kitts and Nevis dances, which are held on the upper level of the building.
